Scully memorabilia auctioned for over $2 million

Personal memorabilia of Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully sold for over $2 million at auction during online bidding that ended Wednesday.

Two Dodgers’ World Series championship rings — one from 1955, one from 1988 — each sold for $188,000, according to David Hunt, owner of Hunt Auctions in Exton, Penn.

The 1955 ring was from the franchise’s lone World Series title in Brooklyn, and the 1988 ring is from the franchise’s most recent title in Los Angeles. The 1988 World Series featured the memorable walk-off homer by a limping Kirk Gibson in Game 1 against the Oakland Athletics.

“There was never a question as to the importance of Vin Scully to his legions of fans but the participation and final results emphatically reinforced that point with record setting participation and pricing,” Hunt said in a statement. “Vin’s ability to make you feel as part of the game itself, part of a family, and with an uncommon humility was his unique genius.

Among other items sold included a 1981 Dodgers World Series championship ring for $83,425, a 1963 Dodgers World Series championship ring for $76,375, and a baseball signed by former president Ronald Reagan for $11,750.

Scully’s scorebook from the 2016 season — his final campaign in the booth for the Dodgers — sold for $82,250. There were more than 600 items sold.

Scully, 92, said the proceeds will go to help family members — including five children, 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren — with expenses. He said some of the proceeds will also be donated to UCLA to help with neuromuscular research.

“This auction contains pieces of my life and dreams as well as baseball memories,” Scully said. “Here’s hoping they will be enjoyed by many.”
