Schenk, Moore share lead at Barracuda Championship

Adam Schenk and Ryan Moore each carded bogey-free rounds Thursday en route to a share of the first-round lead with 14 points at the Barracuda Championship in Truckee, Calif.

Played at Old Greenwood at the Tahoe Mountain Club, the Barracuda uses the Modified Stableford system, which awards eight points for a double-eagle, five for an eagle, two for a birdie, nothing for a par, minus-1 point for a bogey and minus-3 points for a double-bogey or worse.

For the 28-year-old Schenk, this marks the first time he has held even a share of the lead at the conclusion of any round in his PGA Tour career. Moore, 37, is a five-time winner on the tour and is playing in his first Barracuda Championship since 2008.

Robert Streb, Patrick Rogers and Irish native Seamus Power all share third place with 11 points.

With the majority of the world’s best players taking part in the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational in Memphis, the winner of the Barracuda Championship nonetheless gets a spot in next week’s PGA Championship, if they are not already eligible. The top two players in the top 10 not yet eligible for the U.S. Open will earn spots in that tournament. The Open will be in September at Winged Foot in New York.
