Report: Red Sox release veteran C Lucroy

The Boston Red Sox released veteran Jonathan Lucroy on Tuesday, according to MassLive.com, after the catcher appeared in just one game in the major leagues this season.

Lucroy, 34, was signed to a minor league deal this offseason. The two-time All-Star has played for six teams over the past four seasons.

Lucroy is a career .274 hitter over 11 seasons with 108 home runs and 545 RBIs, with his best season coming in 2014 with the Milwaukee Brewers, when he batted .301 with 13 home runs and 69 RBIs, while finishing fourth in National League MVP voting.

Lucroy has played for seven teams, recording seven seasons with the Brewers (2010-2016).
