QBE Shootout, CME championship to be played without fans

The QBE Shootout and CME Group Tour Championship will be played without spectators on the course amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Both will be held in December at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Fla.

“Due to COVID-19, this year’s QBE Shootout and CME Group Tour Championship will be played without spectators in attendance,” QBE Shootout tournament director Rob Hartman said in a statement, per the Naples Daily News. “This was not an easy decision for either event, but the health and safety of the Naples community, PGA Tour and LPGA players, caddies, sponsors, fans, and volunteers is our No. 1 priority.”

The PGA Tour’s QBE Shootout will be played Dec. 11-13. It features a dozen two-man teams competing in three formats. Defending champions are Kevin Tway and Rory Sabbatini.

The LPGA’s CME Group Tour Championship is scheduled for Dec. 17-20. Sei Young Kim is the defending champion. She won her first major last week at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.
