Michigan’s Howard squashes NBA rumors

Michigan basketball coach Juwan Howard took to Twitter to refute a report Monday that suggested he had emerged as a potential NBA coaching candidate.”There was a report of my name as a potential candidate for NBA coaching opportunities,” Howard said. “While I am flattered, and know it will more than likely happen again, I am not exploring, seeking or listening.”I am the head coach at the University of Michigan. I am blessed to be working at the greatest university in the world. I am blessed to be guiding a group of wonderful young men.”Howard, 47, took over his alma mater on May 22, 2019, after John Beilein departed to coach the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Wolverines posted a 19-12 overall record and 10-10 mark in Big Ten play in the first season under Howard, who signed a five-year deal starting at $2 million annually.ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Monday that Howard was a “possible NBA coaching candidate” whose name was favorable within front offices. Wojnarowski also noted that Howard had interviewed for the Los Angeles Lakers and Cavaliers jobs before signing with Michigan.Prior to accepting the job with the Wolverines, Howard had been an assistant coach with the Miami Heat since September 2013.
