Ken Tanigawa’s 65 good for a tie at the top in St. Louis

Ken Tanigawa shot a 6-under 65 on Saturday, and is tied with Doug Barron for the lead at 8-under 134 after two rounds at the inaugural Ascension Charity Classic in St. Louis.

Alex Cejka (67), Jim Furyk (68) and Rod Pampling (66) had strong rounds and are tied for third at Norwood Hills Country Club.

Wes Short Jr. and Rocco Mediate both shot 67, while three-time major winner Vijay Singh and Dickie Pride each shot 69 as part of a four-way tie for sixth at 6 under.

John Daly followed a first-round 68 with a 70 on Saturday and was tied for 16th, four shots back.

Tanigawa eagled a pair of par-5 holes, Nos. 2 and 8, and had three birdies and only one bogey on the day.

Barron, meanwhile, had only 10 pars on the day, registering four birdies and three bogeys, and matched Tanigawa with an eighth-hole eagle.

German Bernhard Langer, who had the Schwab Cup lead in points entering the week, shot 67 to close within four shots of the lead after Saturday’s round.

The Ascension Charity Classic was set to debut in 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic led to its cancellation that year.
