Jutanugarn sisters among 7 positive COVID-19 tests on LPGA

A total of seven players and caddies are sidelined for the LPGA’s Pelican Women’s Championship this week after testing positive for COVID-19, Golfweek reported Friday.

The list includes Thailand-born sisters Ariya Jutanugarn and Moriya Jutanugarn, who announced last week that they were withdrawing from this week’s tournament in Belleair, Fla. No one has tested positive at the tournament site, according to the report.

Per Golfweek, players will be tested again next week while the LPGA takes a break from Thanksgiving weekend, then again upon arrival in The Colony, Texas, for the Volunteers of America Classic, scheduled for Dec. 3-6.

The LPGA reports that just 27 of the 6,200 COVID-19 tests given to players on the top tour and the second-tier Symetra Tour came up positive since play resumed in July, a positivity rate of 0.4 percent.

Moriya Jutanugarn, quarantining at her Lake Nona, Fla., home, told Golfweek regarding her symptoms, “It feels like a really, really bad flu.”

She said she lost her sense of taste and also had a bad fever and a cough. However, Ariya Jutanugarn only experienced a headache.

Moriya Jutanugarn said, “I should be fine, but I don’t know if I’m still going to test positive (next week).”
