No. 1 Gonzaga and No. 2 Baylor are separated by just one point in the 2020-21 Associated Press Top 25 preseason poll released Monday.The Bulldogs will open the season in the top spot for the first time after receiving 28 first-place votes and 1,541 total points. The Bears earned 24 first-place votes and 1,540 points.No. 3 Villanova (11) and No. 4 Virginia (one) accounted for the remaining first-place ballots and Iowa rounds out the top five.The NCAA season is set to tip off on Nov. 25, with players returning to the court for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic shut down March Madness and forced the cancellation of the 2020 NCAA Tournament.”It’s a great honor to be selected No. 1,” said Gonzaga coach Mark Few, whose squad finished 31-2 last season. “We understand that it is more a reflection of what our program has accomplished over the years and hope to play up to that standard as we start our season.”Gonzaga held the No. 1 spot for four weeks in 2019-20 and finished second in the final poll behind Kansas.The Jayhawks open the year at No. 6, with Wisconsin, Illinois, Duke and Kentucky filling out the top 10.Gonzaga and Kansas will square off to open the season on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, at the Fort Myers Tip-Off in Florida.
