FAYETTEVILLE – The #20/17 Arkansas will face one of its oldest rivals – and the school it has faced the most – on Wednesday (Feb. 25) when the Razorbacks host Texas A&M. Tipoff is set for 8 pm (CT) and the game will be televised on ESPN2.
Texas A&M and Texas were both on the Razorbacks’ schedule in their inaugural season (1923-24). However, Arkansas has faced the Aggies 170 times and Texas is second with 157 previous meetings. Much like Arkansas did in that inaugural season, the Hogs are playing both teams late in the season. In 1923-24, Texas A&M was the third-to-last opponent, while Texas was the final opponent. This year, A&M will be Arkansas’ penultimate home game and Texas will be the Hogs’ finale home game.
Arkansas will head to Florida to face the #7 Gators on Saturday (Feb. 28). Tipoff in Gainesville is set for 8:30 pm (ET)/7:30 pm (CT) and the game will be televised on ESPN. Also, ESPN’s Gameday will be in Gainesville for its Saturday morning show. The Razorbacks return home to host Texas on Wednesday (Mar. 4) for the program’s home finale. Tipoff is set for 6 pm (CT).
NOTES:
• Texas A&M is Arkansas’ most common opponent and the series dates back to the Razorbacks’ first season of basketball (1923-24).
• Arkansas and Texas A&M have met on 170 previous occasions. For just the 5th time since A&M joined the SEC in 2012-13, the teams are meeting just once in a season.
• The Razorbacks own a 108-62 advantage in the series. The 108 wins are the most wins for Arkansas versus an opponent.
• Since A&M joined the SEC for the 2012-13 season, Arkansas owns a slight 13-11 advantage in the series. The home team has been dominant in the series since A&M joined the SEC with Arkansas holding a 10-1 advantage in Bud Walton Arena.
• Coach Calipari now has 897 wins and is 3 shy of reaching 900 on-court wins as head coach at an NCAA Division I program. Coach Cal will likely be the third-fastest to 900 wins and the second-youngest to reach 900.
• DID YOU KNOW: Coach Calipari won his 500th career home game. He was 86-14 at home at UMass, 153+19 at home at Memphis, 234-25 at home at Kentucky and he is 27-5 at home at Arkansas.
• Billy Richmond III has taken his game to a new level with the absence of Karter Knox. He has scored 20-plus in three straight games (had never scored more than 15 in his first 60 career games), and, thanks to his last 3 games, he is shooting 64.6% (31-of-48) from the field over the span. With his recent success, Richmond leads the league in field goal percentage in SEC games only at 59.3% (73-of-123).
