Former Iowa standout Arnold dies at 59

Former Iowa standout Kenny Arnold died on Saturday after battling various illnesses for more than three decades. He was 59.Arnold was part of Iowa’s most recent Final Four squad in 1980. A guard, he averaged 13.5 points that season as a sophomore.Overall, Arnold scored 1,112 points in 109 games for the Hawkeyes, an average of 10.2 points.Arnold was diagnosed with brain cancer in 1985 while preparing for a tryout with the Dallas Mavericks. He survived that battle but he repeatedly suffered health issues, including multiple strokes.In recent years, Arnold was mostly confined to a hospital bed and was unable to speak.
