Daly: No more USGA tourneys for me

John Daly says he’s through dealing with the United States Golf Association after it denied his request to use a golf cart during the U.S. Senior Open that starts Thursday.Daly, who ended up withdrawing from the tournament Monday amid a dispute over whether federal law should have dictated that he be allowed a cart, said Tuesday that he won’t take part in any future USGA tournaments.”Just not worth it to me,” Daly, 52, told USA TODAY Sports on Tuesday by text message.Amid his own criticism of the USGA, Daly referenced this month’s U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y. With players upset over extremely tough course conditions, USGA executive director Mike Davis apologized during the third round.”The USGA just seems to defend themselves after the fact,” Daly said, adding that “the greens seem to get away from them like Saturday at Shinnecock Hills. It just seems like something happens every year they host an event that looks bad on them. They just never seem to learn from their mistakes.”Daly said he “saw and heard” the players complaining about the U.S. Open, but “a lot of guys just won’t stand up and say something like they should.”Daly said he is plagued by osteoarthritis in his right knee and was not able to walk The Broadmoor course in Colorado Springs, Colo.He said at the time on his Twitter account that per the Americans with Disabilities Act, he should have been allowed to use a cart.
