The Atlanta Braves placed catcher Sean Murphy back on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday with a fractured left middle finger.
Murphy, only a week removed from a previous IL stint, was injured on a catcher’s interference call in the seventh inning of Sunday’s 7-2 win against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Braves signed 37-year-old free agent catcher Sandy Leon to provide depth in Murphy’s absence. Atlanta also called up outfielder Jose Azocar after optioning infielder Jim Jarvis to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Murphy, 31, is hitting .071 (1-for-14) in four games this season. The former All-Star and Gold Glove winner owns a .227 career batting average with 93 homers and 285 RBIs in 608 games with the then-Oakland Athletics (2019-22) and Braves.
Leon, who arrives from Saltillo in the Mexican League, batted .083 (1-for-12) with a homer and three RBIs in five games with Atlanta during the 2025 season. He is a career .207 hitter with 32 homers and 152 RBIs in 562 games with seven teams since 2012.
